With the credit crunch, skiing breaks continue to remain a favourite choice amid snowboarders.

Thanks to the the coming of low priced flights, along with the closeness of umpteen snowboarding resorts to international airports, snowboarding weekends are at present within the budget of more skiers and snowboarders.

As people are loath to abandon their yearly skiing breaks, but, are reluctant to take a whole week of vacation, many selected to opt for a skiing weekend as an alternative.

Jetting off on a Thurs after work means you can prosper from 3 days on the mountain with only one day’s holiday.

A skiing break in Chamonix can be an exciting short break, allowing that you ensure the particulars are correct, so that you will enjoy your treasured weekend.

With a number of ski providers curbing on capacity for the forthcoming holiday season the price of snowboarding holidays is anticipated to rise.

This will no doubt also affect the snowboarding short break marketplace, which though good last winter, could struggle were this the case.

Nevertheless with the sterling rising against the Euro, and the fact that a lot of skiing short break deals are all inclusive, signifies that there could possibly be bargains out there.

As a matter of fact now might constitute a fortuitous period to order one’s skiing holiday as there are some first class early bird discounts around, as well as the cheapest flight tickets.

France’s best-kept secret exists directly amidst Fiji and Australia. It’s the island known as New Caledonia and it is a vacation paradise. New Caledonia has a finer climate than most islands thanks to the current trade winds which maintain it balmy but not overly hot all year. The ocean water is balmy enough for water sports all year long.

If one are seeking for French customs or perhaps a rural spin to an island holiday, you should want to set your eyes on Noumea. Explored by a French Navel agent in the 1800’s, Noumea has been all things starting with a trade wharf to a military base during it’s past. Nowdays it is an amazing island to take relaxing strolls throughout the afternoons & evenings.

Additional to fine dining and posh shopping, there are quite a few of other attractions that you do not want to ignore during one’s vacation. The Museum of New Caledonia opened in 1971 & focuses in the ethnology & archaeology of the place. The funeral masks, totems and jewelry are fine.

You also do not wish to miss a rather rare abode: a Gothic cathedral in the vicinity of the Pacific! St Joseph Cathedral was constructed in 1887 and it took ten years to accomplish.

There is so much to experience and do in Noumea that you might want to look into one of the abounding well-known guided tours. Ask about them in your hotel.

Certainly, you may want to gather for the evening in The Place des Cocotiers in the middle of Noumea. This famous gathering point presents gardens, live music & markets.

Noumea is stunning for the Urbanite however, if visitors would prefer something more relaxing & more adventurous, then the Isle of Pines is likely to be your stop. Located about 50 miles southeast of Noumea, The Isle of Pines appears as though time has omitted it thoroughly.

Searching for white sand beaches with palm trees? This is the place to visit. There are currently kilometers of pristine white sand & swaying palm trees.

Isle of Pines is a utopia for the water enthusiast. From glass base boats to scuba diving, it’s all here. This is also an awesome place to have a stab at kite surfing and kayaking.

Any of the hotels in New Caledonia are currently modern & offer all the amenities one could ask for from an extravagant vacation resort. If you are currently feeling adventurous, the local food is solely seafood based & it is exceptional.

For your next island holiday, New Caledonia can’t be beaten as the paradise destination.

Anyone who has traveled during the summer in the back seat of an SUV with a trio of squabbling younger siblings will agree with me. What is it that makes a younger brother ask “are we there yet” 1400 times in six hours of travel? Why does an older sister monopolizing the only available bathroom lose track of time? When will moms understand that you don’t need to shower at 7am if you are going to spend the day at the beach? Does every dad read the sports page of the newspaper for 20 minutes or is it just mine that does it whenever we travel and I can’t even check the scores on the internet?

You’d think things would get better when you travel as a group with a bunch of family friends. It sounds exciting at first, you think it should be better with a couple of other families joining in and the whole group camping near the woods, close to the lake, barbecues, hammocks, the works. Only it doesn’t pan out that way - sure mom doesn’t crib about dad not stopping to get directions, but dad goes on about the beer in the travel icebox not being cold enough. Sure there were barbecues, but you had to pretend that the charred stuff was yummy and hope that ants hadn’t gotten to that stash of chocolate bars at the bottom of your knapsack.

Every time Pete shows off his videos uploaded on those cool luxury travel websites, I promise myself - one day, I will travel to the Caribbean and do stuff like those cool dudes on TV do.

Every year it is the very same account. Despite walking to work, and an infrequent long walk, each ski season kicks off with those torturous 1st few hikes when one is forgotten in the wake of junior and faster snowboarding buddies. It’s enough to ruin my skiing holiday.

If you are not match fit while ski touring it’s unenjoyable, and may be out and out unsafe. Skiing down you need some surplus capability. If you are a tired skier you are more than likely to suffer injuries and fatigue can be a contributing factor to incidents, such as trips and rock falls.

Surely there’s a safer way to begin the ski season, and a newly released 304 page report by Cherie Wherry looks to provide a resolution. Though directed at climbers the information is for the most part relevant to skiing, with its energetic ascents as well as different games.

Climbing, training for best results is adequately detailed and easy to read. It’s a good all-round guide that pulls together some good research. You can evolve a unique cardiovascular regime or tune your current programme. Granted that it is written for mountaineers, and so a little of the information maybe extraneous for skiing, it is certainly a guide to buy if you would like to do some of the long 24 hour or multi-day ski tours.

We’ve holidayed in a lot of European skiing holiday resorts e.g. Les Gets, Espace Killy, Verchaix and La Plagne, however through all our ski holidays Chamonix Mont Blanc France without a shadow of a doubt is our favourite French resort to go for skiing holiday.

The place of birth of alpine history and dwelling to the glorious Monte Bianco - at 4807m European Unions’ highest peak - Chamonix Haute Savoie touts a brilliant snow register, a longish snowboarding season (December-May), peerless extreme skiing, and perspectives to die for. So Chamonix has an global reputation for a lot of the most outstanding, challenging, and invigorating skiing on hand anywhere in the cosmos.

The Chamonix valley is enormous and every bit as intimidating, and that is before we even look at the neighboring ski towns; including Isola 2000, Alpe d’Huez, Auron, Les Menuires and Meribel.

The Mont Blanc skiing lift pass covers 9 Chamonix, and twelve regional skiing mountains; with terrain upwards of 3842m, upwards of 240 cable cars, and 770 km of ski pistes - and the bulk of the ski areas higher than 2020 metres. The hotel is located on the south-west coast of the beautiful island of Sicily. The four-star Hotel Admeto is situated in a spectacular location with panoramic views over the Mediterranean, near the evocative ancient site at Selinunte (the Greek city of Selinus, famously attacked by Hannibal with battering rams). Here you will find no less than eight ruined temples, which were probably destroyed by a succession of earthquakes. Today Selinunte is a magical, desolate place, overgrown with acanthus and wild celery (from which it takes its name). It’s hard to believe that here stood one of the greatest cities of the ancient civilised world. Castelvetrano itself shouldn’t be overlooked: its church of San Domenico is bursting with stucco angels, saints and putti (cherubs).

For recreation enjoy the stunning views to the full, or make the most of them at breakfast, which is served in a glorious, sunshine-filled room that overlooks the sea. For lunch and dinner, the pleasant restaurant offers delicious typical Sicilian cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, locally caught fish.

All the Hotel Admeto’s 56 rooms are air-conditioned with refrigerated minibars, safety deposit boxes for valuables, and hairdryers. Modern in style, they feature the latest technology, such as satellite television and internet access.
