A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.

Increasingly, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.

Nevertheless, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. Most legally blind people 65 percent do not use computers. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen.

The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. Indeed functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.

While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. Almost 8 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision.

The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. This season medical volunteer Anthony Loeff is writing about screen readers for Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers.

Losing weight on hips and thighs has always been a dream. And
yes, dreams come true! It is usually difficult to lose weight
from thighs and hips as compared to abdomen. Though different
methods work for different people because of their individual
mechanism but there is a more generic solution to it.

Here are some valuable tips which can make your thighs and hips
slimmer!

1) Two spoons of triphala every night detoxify the body. Ginger
water boosts liver function which further helps in fat
breakdown. Tulsi water helps in a great way.

2) Exercises simply does it for you. A regular visit to gym and
exercising in the right way for right muscles can help you make
your body firm and tight. Aerobic exercises is another smart
option.

Tip: Walking briskly is considered to be the best exercise for
losing weight on hips and thighs. If it gets difficult for you
to go outdoors for walking or pollution stops you from going out
for walk, treadmill is THE BEST option for you. Know more about
Treadmills here.

3) Diet pills don’t help in a long run. They, in no way, cut
down your calorie intake which is must for lean hips and thighs.

Tip: Keep date with Gym and have a recommended, balanced diet.

4) Keep patience. Its a lot harder to get rid of the stubborn
fat at hips and thighs as compared to fat at the upper part of
the body.

Tip: Keep inspiring yourself through reading and educate
yourself with right knowledge.

5) Last but not the least, a well organized, recommended weight
loss program is a must. As been mentioned, improper diet leads
to weight gain especially at thighs and hips, so what better
than a personal diet expert for you to cater to your individual
needs and goals.

Asbestos, a naturally occurring complex silicate, was extensively used in many industries, including insulation in shipbuilding, manufacture of brake lining, and automobiles. Asbestos is a common name given to a group of six fibrous minerals which have their existence in two general forms, friable and non-friable. The toxic effects induced by asbestos inhalation include desquamating alveolitis, bronchiolitis, and pulmonary fibrosis. Other more serious health ailments caused by asbestos exposure include pleural effusion, pleural plaques, pleural calcification, and Mesothelioma (a highly malignant disease).

Mesothelioma, a serious health problem associated with asbestos exposure, starts when cells found in mesothelium (a protective lining that covers most of the internal organs of the body) becomes abnormal and divides without control and order. These cancer cells may spread to damage tissues and organs. The diagnosis of Mesothelioma is difficult by pleural cytology. The characteristic radiographic feature of the disease is massive pleural effusion.

The disease is almost three times more common in males as compared to females. The maximum number of Mesothelioma cases is reported in the age group of 40-60 years. The most common symptoms observed during the onset of Mesothelioma include asthenia, breathlessness, and dull chest pain. Other less frequent symptoms include cough, fever, and loss of weight. Haemoptysis is a symptom of Mesothelioma which is rarely observed.

The therapeutic (chemotherapy or immunotherapy) means are mostly unable to help significantly in the treatment. Even radiotherapy and pleurectomy fail as effective treatment options. The average patient survival after the diagnosis of Mesothelioma is 8 to 10 months. The most preferable option can be of preventive treatment for Mesothelioma. Strict industrial safety measures, proper hygiene, and regular check up of workers exposed to asbestos must form the crucial part of serious Mesothelioma preventive treatment methods.

Asbestos provides detailed information about asbestos, asbestos and mesothelioma, asbestos cancer, asbestos exposure and more. Asbestos is the sister site of Malignant Mesothelioma.

Weight loss surgeries are not a cure for obesity. Infact you only have a few years to enjoy the sole benefits of weight loss surgeries.

Permanent weight loss is not assured through weight loss surgeries; rather it is about a change in lifestyle. Obviously weight loss surgeries do not constitute a lifestyle change.

Types of weight loss surgeries:

There are basically three types of weight loss surgery procedures;

    (i) Restrictive weight loss surgery

    (ii) Mal-absorptive weight loss surgery

(iii) Restrictive and mal-absorptive (Combined) weight loss surgery.

Restrictive weight loss surgeries are procedures that reduces the size of the stomach such that you are forced to eat less by restricting the amount of food you stomach can hold at a time hence the term restrictive surgery. This is usually done in two main ways, either using staples or using a band.

Both procedures reduce the size of the effective stomach by creating a small pouch out of the main stomach using either the band or staples.

Mal-absorptive weight loss surgeries on the other hand donot limit food intake. It inhibits absorption of calories. The procedures involve eliminating a substantial length of small intestines from coming in contact with the digested food.

The logic behind mal-absorptive surgeries are that though one may eat a lot of calories, fewer calories are absorbed into the blood stream due to a significantly shorter small intestines, the site for nutrient and calorie absorption.

Combined weight loss surgeries are a hybrid of the other two procedures. It has become more common as it is found to be more effective to restrict both calorie intake and absorption.

According to American Society of Bariatric Surgery, about 170,000 people in the year 2005 had weight loss surgeries. Most of these procedures were dome on adults 65 yrs old and younger who had been immobilized by their weigh and related medical conditions.

Weight Loss Surgeries are an extreme support structure:

It is important that weight loss surgeries is understood. They are not a cure for obesity they probably will never be. The only known cure for obesity is a change in lifestyle to a healthy diet and increased physical activities.

As so appropriately suggested by surgeon Harvey Sugerman professor emeritus of Virginia Commonwealth University and a past president of American Society of Bariatric Surgery, weight loss surgery “is a tool”. Indeed it is an extreme tool only for extreme cases.

Among the top 4 reasons you fail in losing weight is lack of weight loss support structures. Weight loss surgeries are support structures. Weight loss support structures are physical means that are designed to aid your physiology as well as psychology in the pursuit to lose weight healthily and safely.
Among the characteristics that weight loss surgeries exhibits support include the fact that weight loss surgery jump stars weight loss.

This is a similar characteristic you will find in a liquid diet or an appetite suppressing weight loss pill. Both can be used under a watchful eye to assist in losing weight. Similarly weight loss surgeries should be handled as weight loss support structure. They are not a cure.

Ten Simple Lifestyle Changes You Can Make to Reduce
Your Risk for Osteoporosis

  • Stop or decrease your meat intake.
  • Stop or decrease your dairy intake.
  • Decrease or eliminate sugar from your diet.
  • Cut back on processed foods.
  • Eliminate highly acid vinegars.
  • Decrease or stop caffeine.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Cut back or eliminate alcohol consumption.
  • Start a weight bearing exercise program.
  • Get plenty of sunshine or supplement vitamin D.

“The myth that osteoporosis is caused by calcium deficiency was
created to sell dairy products and calcium supplements. There’s no truth to it. American women are among the biggest consumers of
calcium in the world, and they still have one of the highest
levels of osteoporosis in the world. And eating even more dairy
products and calcium supplements is not going to change that fact.”
- Dr. John McDougall

Discussion:

The ingestion of milk causes the blood to become acid
ie -pH less than the normal 7.43. The body corrects this via
the calcium phosphate balance which requires mobilization of
additional calcium into the bloodstream to correct the acidosis.
This calcium is obtained by removing it from the bones. Thus, it
is no surprise that milk causes a total body calcium loss.
This is not new information and is well discussed with reference
to the original studies in John Robbins’s book “Diet for a New
America.”

Amazing as it sounds, the ash (residue) from any animal protein
that finds its way to the bloodstream is so acid that the
homeostatic mechanisms of the body that maintain the pH of
the blood at 7.43 are immediately invoked. The prime mechanism
to accomplish this (as noted above) is the calcium / phosphate
balance in the bloodstream. Since calcium acts as a base
(can correct an acid condition of the blood) the body pulls
calcium from the bone to offset or correct the acidosis
caused by the acid residue from the animal protein
(this includes dairy/milk).

Over time the continuing ingestion of animal protein
leads to significant loss of bone mineralization and
eventually clinical osteoporosis. Ingesting more calcium
is a very simplistic approach that more often than not
does not help. The problem is that supplemental calcium
seldom finds its way to the bloodstream and the body will
continue to remove calcium from the bone since this is the
pathway that mother nature has established.

As a diagnostic
radiologist I had many an occasion to see calcium
tablets of all varieties totally undissolved on abdominal
radiographs. Treating osteoporosis with additional calcium is like replacing the wood in a termite infested house without
eradicating the termites. The only effective (and extremely
simple) answer is to just not consume animal protein. One
of the other complications of the increased mobilization of
calcium is kidney stones. The incidence of kidney stones is
considerably increased in those who consume animal protein.

The Bantu women, who are exclusively vegan and live off of a
completely plant based diet in central Africa, get less than
350 mg of calcium in their daily diet. Yet, there is no
osteoporosis in these women since they do not ingest any animal
protein. This is also true for many women in the more remote
portions of mainland China.

All the new imaging devices for measuring bone density are
really a large technological waste of time and money.
If you consume animal protein you are at risk for
osteoporosis -period. Just take some of the money you
would spend to have your bone density measured and go out
and buy some good organic veggies. You and your bones
will love you for it.

Osteoporosis is not gender specific. Although more women than
men are affected, men also have osteoporosis. I once knew
an Ultrasound technician in his thirties who had osteoporosis.

Recipes:

The following recipes are good sources of calcium from
totally natural sources as well as recipes that avoid the
foods that cause osteoporosis. For those of you outside
of the US the need for organic foods is not as critical
since the destructive commercial farming practices here
have not reached the rest of the world -yet. This is
especially true in Europe where a tomato, I am told, still
tastes like a tomato.

Black bean burritos, tostadas and tacos.

Prepare some organic black beans refried style as in the
MericleDiet or however you like to prepare your beans.
Obtain some organic tortillas, taco or tostada shells.
Drop some refried beans into or onto one of the above
and add some chopped lettuce, cabbage or onions. Black
beans and onions really make a good burrito. Wrap the
tortilla around your filling and garnish with salsa
and maybe some more cabbage or lettuce. If you like, you
can fry the burrito to make what we used to call a “Cindy
Special” from an old Mexican restaurant here in Tucson.
The frying is however not without its caloric burden,
although it makes for a real taste treat.

Other good sources of calcium are organic kale, collards,
broccoli, bok choy and tofu.

A fresh spinach salad makes a nice addition to this meal
and a lot of organic greens really are excellent sources
of calcium that the body can utilize. I have been told
that, although spinach is high in calcium, it is also high
in oxalic acid which is alleged to bind the calcium thus
limiting its absorption. However spinach is still a good
bet since it has been shown to retard the development of
macular degeneration.

Summary:

Osteoporosis is not a disease of calcium absorption but is
a proactive disease caused by ingesting foods that upset the
acid/base balance of the body thus requiring calcium to be
slowly but constantly leached from your bones in order to keep
the blood (pH) normal (7.43). No amount of ingested calcium
will correct the problem as long as one continues to destroy
their bones by eating the wrong foods. The answer is to
simply stop the destruction of your bones by significantly
reducing or completely stopping the ingestion of animal
protein.

One last quote:

“In the next 10 to 15 years, one of the things you’re bound
to hear is that animal protein … is one of the most toxic
nutrients of all that can be considered . Risk for disease
goes up dramatically when even a little animal protein is
added to the diet.” T. Colin Campbell Ph.D. (Author of
The China Study).
