Do you know how many people are actually linking to your website? Like a lot of people, you probably have gone to Google, typed in link:yourdomain.com and had a peek at how many links there were. Even a lot of software will use the same method - looking for exactly that hyperlink within webpages. The problem is that this is very innacurate and gives you only a small glimpse into a much bigger picture.

How can that be?

Hyperlinking is far more advanced these days. It is common for many sites to have their links coded for statistical purposes or simply because the software they run on their server creates coded links so that sites can be easily edited or removed from the database. They may look something like this:

or “www.somedomain.com/links.php?link=345″

There may be other reasons and variations of urls too, however the point is that because these links are coded, a simple backlink check just won’t work. So while it may appear that only 100 sites are linking to you, it could actually be 1000’s.

Case in Point: One of my websites shows only 74 exact backlinks through a basic check, when in fact there are about 11,800 links. While it is almost impossible to know just how many of those links are active (clickable), cross-referencing my own statistics supported these results.

Try it yourself. Type in something like:

“yourdomain.com”

But what about internal links from within your site showing up as backlinks? Wouldn’t that skew the actual backlink count?

You’re right, but you can easily exclude your own domain from the results by simply typing in:

“yourdomain.com” -site:yourdomain.com

Do the non-hyperlinked references really count?

I believe they do qualify as valuable backlinks (though I do prefer to call them references instead). Look at it this way, business cards contain your website url but aren’t clickable. So what makes non-hyperlinks on the web any less valuable? If people want to visit, they can copy and paste the link or type it in themselves. In fact, there is less chance of typos because of this.

The Traffic Time Forgot…

Another useful function of this method is the ability to locate dead spaces where people are linking to pages you no longer have on your website and perhaps have forgotten about. While 404 redirects and messages are fine for catching the traffic, why would you waste the space? These are prime areas to bring life to and can easily be filled with monetized content.

About 6 months ago I did a complete redesign of one of my websites. This meant removing a lot of pages that I was no longer using as I was condensing everything. A few weeks ago, I was doing a backlink check and noticed a large number of links and references (100’s actually) pointing to a page which I had long forgotten about. What was suprising is that the majority of these backlinks were coded, so that they did not show up in a basic link check. Instead of letting the 404 catcher manage it, I decided to recreate it with still relevant content and much to my surprise, it still had a pagerank of 5 immediately after being uploaded.

Imagine That!

Many individuals may feel that high school is not for them and they would prefer to get a GED and enter the workforce early. After all, a GED stands for General Equivalency Diploma, meaning it is equal to the high school diploma and it takes less work. The GED may seem like the easy way out for many, but the fact is a GED is not such a great option.

The unfortunate thing about the GED is that it does not allow you to get a full education. Yes, you have to pass a test to get it, but the individual misses out on too much information that would be taught in a high school class that is not on the test. Of course, the student may think that most of it is useless information, but the fact is it makes you a person with a more rounded education.

The GED also does not teach you self-discipline. It is, as stated, the easy way out, but in the end will make things much more difficult. When you have to attend classes on a daily basis and pass in homework on time, it teaches you self-discipline. Not passing in homework and being late or absent to classes does not hurt anyone but the student and their grade. A person that is getting their GED misses out in this important life lesson.

Another reason a GED is not such a great option is if the individual is going to apply for college, they may have a difficult time. Colleges will want to see the student’s high school transcripts and when they see they dropped out and received their GED, they may look a little harder at their potential student. Will the student be able to get through the classes without dropping out? Will the students fully apply themselves? The colleges will look at this GED student closer than others.

While the GED will allow you to get a job and even go to college, it does not provide you with the full education you deserve. A high school diploma requires you to complete a set of courses designed to give you an education in several subject areas, as well as allowing you to enhance them with enrichment classes and extra-curricula activities. By getting your GED, you’re missing out on a lot of great information and experiences.

Learning to effectively manage your time is paramount to your success; you will not be as successful (financially, emotionally, spiritually or in your family life) if you don’t. The good news is that there are some tools to make the job much easier.

Keep in mind that each one of these tools can be, and in fact is the subject of books, tape sets and seminars. I encourage you to go into each one more deeply. My purpose here is to outline the tools that I have found most useful in my own life. Some you’ve heard of already and you may benefit from a new perspective. Others will be new and you may want to add them to your existing tool belt.

Goal Setting

The fact is that most people spend more time planning their wedding and vacations then they do their life. As a result most weddings and vacations are well orchestrated, fun and joyful events and most people’s lives are in varying stages of disaster. With a road map, you can find your way anywhere. Without one, you’ll be lost before you know it. A well thought out properly organized set of goals is your road map.

The cornerstone of effective time management is to understand clearly what you want to accomplish. Otherwise you can be very efficient with your time, but you won’t be very effective. In other words if you are completing unimportant tasks twice as fast as before, you are being more efficient, but you are not heading in the right direction. And going faster and faster in the wrong direction won’t get you to where you ultimately want to be - right?

Decades ago, a remarkable study was done involving one hundred Harvard graduates. Twenty five years after each one graduated, they interviewed each of the students in order to determine how much they had accomplished. Each had similar backgrounds and resources and had received a similar level of education. The conclusion: the three people with written goals had accomplished more than the other 97 combined.

That is the power of having well thought out, written goals.

One of the most suggested means of getting traffic to a site in the early stages is to get involved in messageboard and e-mail discussions on your topic of choice. The idea is that you can show your expertise and therefore get traffic to your site via your signature file (most discussion lists allow you to include your signature file with your post - a few lines with your name, site address and maybe a very brief description). Whilst this is a valid tip, I don’t believe that the real reason for why you should do this has been investigated far enough previously.

Firstly, if you post an ad for your site on a discussion list, your are spamming and will create a bit of a fiasco. This does not make good business sense. So, the way to do it is to look for people asking questions and answer them. The issue here is your reasons for doing this. If your reason is purely to drive traffic to your site, you probably won’t be terribly successful and, sometimes, people will work out what you are up to. Therefore, your goal should be to be seen as an expert in your field, not to get traffic to your site.

Even if you don’t include a signature with your posts, you can still make a name for yourself and, in the long term, this will prove to be a far more profitable approach. I have visited many discussion lists in my time and it is easy to see the people that have gained respect. From a business point of view, they are the ones who will benefit from this approach, not the people who post simple answers to try to get an immediate effect.

Your goal must always be to achieve success in your online venture and your personal credibility will play a major role in this. So, when looking at marketing on messageboards and in E-mail discussion lists, establishing your credentials as an expert in your field must be your number one priority, not short term traffic generation methods.

What is depression?

Depression is a serious medical illness; it’s not something that you have made up in your head. It’s more than just feeling “down in the dumps” or “blue” for a few days. It’s feeling “down” and “low” and “hopeless” for weeks at a time.

It is not something you can just pull yourself out of! It is not something that you can just shake off. To read more about the signs and symptoms of depression go to this link: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/depression.cfm#ptdep3

For many people one tiny thing can set off a huge depression attack. I have suffered from depression now for 8 years, I guess to be truthful I have dealt with depression my whole life but just didn’t realize it till the incident I am about to relate to you.

8 years ago my husband Brent was in the military, he had been having problems with his health for a little over a year and the doctors all said it was in his head and that they could find nothing wrong with him. Our oldest sons were only 1 and 3 at the time and we lived in Olympia Washington. I kept telling him to get a second opinion but being we had military insurance and at that time it wasn’t as flexible as it is now, he didn’t want to go get a second opinion. We lived in a nice apartment and I love our life, although I was homesick a lot of times it was the life we chose and so I was happy till the incident I will tell you about.

I woke up one morning your typical morning, get up to pack Brent’s lunch and wake him up for PT (physical training) it was 5:30 in the morning. He wasn’t in bed which for him was very unusual but I thought he may have just needed to use the bathroom and I missed him getting out of bed. I walked into the kitchen to start making our morning coffee, and realized that the TV was still on which it shouldn’t have been. I then started looking for Brent I went into the bathroom and found him in a coma on our bathroom floor.

I couldn’t get a response from him and I panicked. I got the boys up threw them in the car and then dragged my husband from our bathroom to our van to get him to the hospital as fast as I could. Now why didn’t I just call the ambulance? To be honest I didn’t think about that all I wanted to do was get him some help.

When we got to the hospital he was still in a coma, the doctors couldn’t figure out why he was non responsive. They pulled me and my sons out of the room he was in and told me to find someone to watch the boys and get back to the hospital as fast as I could and to call his family as they didn’t think he was going to make it.

I was thrown our perfect life, our safe life was in just a few short hours going to change. I can deal with some stress but the thought of losing my best friend was more than I could bare.

We didn’t have a cell phone at that time so I ran with the kids in both my arms to the payphone to call the only friend I had at that time to tell her what was going on, she was getting ready to move in 2 days but she told me to bring my kids to her house and she would watch them.

I then drove the 20 minutes back to our house dropped the kids off at her house ran home and called his parents. During that time I got a phone call from his captain that the doctor had called him to tell him to track me down as my husband was dying and they didn’t think he was going to pull through. I screamed I cried I just didn’t believe this was happening to us!

I got back in the car and smoked cigarettes to try to calm down, we had quit smoking a month before this, my friend had given me her cigarettes while I was at her house. I rushed into the emergency room and the doctor met me out in the hall way and was asking me all sorts of questions of course I didn’t want to take the time to answer I wanted to get back to my hubby, my world, my best friend. The Doctor told me that his sugar levels were 950 and that he really should have died sometime during the night but he was a fighter.

Finally he let me go into the room where Brent was and I leaned over him pleading with him to not leave me, pleading with him not to leave his sons. He opened his eyes and the only thing he said was “I am mad at you, you were smoking” then he went back into his coma. Of course the doctors then pushed me out of the way and started trying to get him to respond to them, they then told me they were taking him to ICU to work on him and get him on a heart catheter.

48 hours later he was awake and was responding to treatment, they had found out that he was a type 1 diabetic although they still don’t understand how he got it since no one in his family has diabetes and and Type 1 is not the kind you get because of your health or your weight you are usually born with it and diagnosed with it while you are still a kid.

After he was released from the hospital after a 7 day stay I lived in constant worry. I could not focus on anything except making sure he was ok, did he eat, did he take his medications. For weeks I could not sleep at night for fear he would have another attack, I still have times where I go through that now.

In an effort to try to calm my fears I started focusing on things in my life that I could control: my weight, the dirty carpets ( we rented so the carpets were very old and had always looked dirty but I was able to live with that till this happened.

I wouldn’t do the dishes, my poor kids were always dirty, the house was a total mess. I mean have you seen those houses that are on tv that Oprah has shown well at one point my house looked like that. I only focused on scrubbing the carpet. I would get up in the morning look at the kitchen try to clean it up and just couldn’t my attention would be drawn to the dirt spot in the carpet by the kitchen entrance. So I would go out to my cleaning closet get out my bucket and scrub brush and start scrubbing that spot. I would still be there scrubbing hours later when Brent came home for lunch.

My poor sons, I love my sons with all my heart but I will admit for the first month Brent was home from the hospital if it hadn’t been for my mom and my MIL they wouldn’t have been clean or fed. I looked at them and didn’t want to deal. When I was scrubbing the carpets I was zoned out to everything! I didn’t think, I didn’t care. This was so not like me!

Finally Brent knew that something was very wrong with me so he made an appointment for me to see a doctor and I was diagnosed with manic depression and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). They didn’t want to put me on medication right away they want to try to teach me other ways to focus my fears and obsession with out having to resort to medications. But after a month they realized I needed medicine to help me get through this time of my life.

I hate medicine, I don’t like taking it, I have a hard time remembering to finish the whole dosage. So for me it was a struggle in the beginning to just take the medication. After a few months the medicine helped me get my life back to where I was able to handle it again.

Why do I tell you all this, not sure really. I just know that for me it turned my life upside down over the past 8 years we have several times that I have had to call the EMS to save him, our world has changed. I live in the fear that we will have to go through this again.

When he has episodes I go into a state of worry, depression. I pray that our lives will get back to like they were 12 years ago. No worries living in our own little world where nothing hurts us.

I still go into states of depression but now I know the signs I know when I need to call my doctor and I also know now that for me I cannot pull myself out of it! I now can share with my friends when I am down and have made up a support line of other moms who know me and know that I suffer from depression, who I can call or email when I need that emotional support that sometimes a family member cannot give.

I started Support for Moms in an effort to help other moms who suffer from depression or need a place to go to voice their feelings.

I went through another major depression this past spring and when I reached out for help from an online board that I was at I got booted as a moderator after 3 years of being a moderator on the boards and helping other moms who dealt with depression. They told me it was not because I was depressed but since the day before I had just posted that I needed help, I needed to talk and I posted my soul something I rarely do online or for that matter in person to anyone who is not family. I had a hard time believing it was for any other reason. This made me start searching for a place to post to find someone else who I could talk to who was dealing with what I was dealing with.

So Support for Moms was born!

It is my wish that the site and the boards offer comfort, support for all moms from all walks of life dealing with situations that they have no control over.

So if you are in need of comfort, support or just want to vent and get life’s stresses off your chest please stop by our boards.

Thank you for reading my story and I hope this may help just one person.

When you are trying to choose a Podiatrist you will find that it is much like choosing any kind of Doctor. You will have to take your time and check out the possibilities with care to ensure that you are getting the right specialist for you. It is always a good idea to choose one that has a membership in the American Podiatric Medical Association or the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. You can do many things to find the correct Doctor for you.

You can ask your family physician for a referral to a good Podiatrist. They will be able to tell you from experience who they think would be best for you. On a personal level you can ask many friends or family members to assist you in the choosing of a good physician.

One good place to find out information on any kind of Doctor, are the nurses. They usually work with a lot of physicians and can often be a good source for objective and helpful information. They can tell you a lot about their ability and their professionalism as well as their personality and their behavior.

You can also look in the directory if you are having a hard time finding out about any of the Podiatrists. You can always call their office and ask for patient referrals to help you make your decision. Usually there are a few patients that will allow their names to be used as references for other patients. You should ask questions and find out all you can about the Podiatrists that you are thinking of using.

The best thing that you can do is making an appointment with the doctor and sees how you feel about him. Do not be afraid to ask questions and find out all you can about his ability. You should also feel comfortable around this person. You are putting your life into his hands and you want the very best for your health care provider. Meeting with the Podiatrist will give you all of the information that you will have to have to make a good decision.

Make sure that you can trust this person to handle your medical procedures. You should be able to determine whether or not you can feel good about using this doctor right away. Your instincts are the best source of judgment on anyone’s character and this will include your Podiatrist as well.

The main thing is to do your research and find out all you can first. Do not go with a random search in the yellow pages. Your feet and health are important and you should be getting only the very best care for them.

Are you ready to win money playing an online poker tournament? Advancing to the money in one of these multi-person tournaments takes some luck but the right strategy can help you to overcome the challenge of trying to win one of these tournaments.

First, start off by playing a low entry-fee tournament. One-dollar and five-dollar entry fees are the way to go if you are first beginning. Don’t be intimidated by the amount of entrants in these tournaments. About 10-15% of these people are just in it to try and get lucky. Don’t fall victim to their early raises or perhaps all-in bets. In the early stages of the tournament, don’t try and cash in on a good hand right away. Some idiot will call your pocket aces with a seven three and beat you with two pair. Simply call and only bet if you know you can’t be beat. Many players will go out early and it is critical that you just survive and pick up a few chips along the way.

This strategy will enable you to move on to the second stage of the tournament. By now, half of the players are gone and you can try to build your chip stack now. Start playing more aggressively and beware of players with bigger stacks trying to push you around. If you have a good hand, don’t be afraid to play it. Now is the time to put yourself in position for the final run and get yourself in position for the money.

If you are lucky enough to make it to the end, the pressure will build drastically. By this time in the tournament, some players are weakening and just waiting for the hand to go all-in on. Stay focused mentally and think about the odds carefully before playing your hand. Try slow-playing that killer hand and trap your opponent into thinking that you have nothing. Chances are he will think you are bluffing and you can bury him.

Finally, don’t get frustrated if you don’t make it very far into your first few tournaments. Work on developing your skills and becoming a good tournament poker player. Stick to your strategy even if you lose a couple of good hands. Chances are, your patience will pay off in the end and you can happily accept your prize money with a feeling of great satisfaction.

Gaming laptops used to only be brought from certain companies. As I remember they were never the greatest selling laptops but being the most expensive they were the best cash generating systems. I reckon numerous people would concur they always desired a laptop for gaming however it was just out of reach for the majority. Maybe they weren’t the most functional however I still think they were the best laptops. Although they did get everybody excited I don’t think they sold in quantities because few people really buy laptops that are expensive. I reckon things are already changing though and will continue to because the larger brands are all coming into the market.

They know there is cash to be had here. They could command the sector. With such little profits on other notebooks its no surprise they would like to be included here. With their massive marketing resources I’m sure they can persuade people to buy laptops like these. Had I been a smaller reseller I would probably be thinking of strategies to react to this kind of competition. I’m fairly sure that the larger companies will try to push the small ones out. Multinational companies can leverage their brand names to easily win purchasers over.

To my astonishment the brand name gaming laptops are as good if not better than the best laptops in the market. This is one opportunity the local resellers need to employ to their benefit. I don’t think buyers would like to have the same spec as everybody in this kind of sector. These prospects have the technical knowledge and can conclude which notebook computers are best. For particular customers specs and statistics are more valuable than style.

Certainly what’s happening here can benefit us in the long term. The latest technology will be available to everybody when prices are pushed further down. Do not quote me on that though because all sorts could occur in the laptop computer industry. Prices will be kept high because of the constant production of new portables. The well known brands have already entered the gaming laptops sector so we’ll have to be patient and see what happens I reckon.

One thing I am convinced about is that whatever our life turns out to be today, is as a result of the thought we had yesterday. If you are experiencing any unpleasant thing in your life today, it is because of the way you have been thinking. “Nothing just happen” is one of my favourite quotes. We create our lives just in accordance with our thoughts.

If you always think of failing in anything you do, just be sure that is what you will eventually get and vice versa. If small things are happening in your life today, it is just because your thought are small. Begin to think BIG and see if BIG things will not begin to happen in your life.

When an idea comes into your mind, do you first think about its impossibility? When you think something is impossible, it will forever be impossible but if you think you can do all things, you will discover ways to carry them through. Napoleon Bonarpate said, “The word impossibility is not in my dictionary.” If you look at the world’s history when it comes to war and military prowess, Napoleon’s name is etched in gold. That is a man that has conquered so many lands just by believing in himself and his abilities. The great inventors and the businessmen we read about, are the products of their thought. What they did wasn’t significant at all but their thought. Even though a lot of people didn’t believe in them, but just like Napoleon, impossibility was never found in their thought.

If you have read “Think and Grow Rich,” you would have seen the phrase, “Whatsoever the mind of man can conceive (think) and beleiev, he can ACHIEVE!” There is no better truth than this. There is a Bible passage I read some years back that really blew my mind and lay credence to what Napoleon Hill is saying. We probably have read this passage several times even as kids in our Sunday schools, but the real interpretation was never revealed to us probably because our teachers do not even understand the power behind that message. Open to Genesis 11:6 and see what the last part has to say: “… and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagineg to do.”

That statement cut a chord in my heart the very day I discovered it and since then I have always kept it close to my heart. Napoleon Hill is just restating what God has said thousand of years ago, in his book. I want you to begin from this day to see the tremendous power your thought carries. If God himself can acknowledge that your thought is so powerful to accomplish what you are imagining, then I don’t see any reason you should short-change yourself by thinking so little of yourself.

Change your thought, change your life. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Whatsoever the heart of man can conceive and believe, he can achieve!

This is to your success in 2006.
